Jason's grandfather, Dr. Martin McRae Barnes, died on April 22, 2007, at age 86.

A memorial service was held for him on May 12, 2007 at the First Congregational Church in Riverside.

In the green jacket is David Hawkes, Martin's roommate for the later years of his life. Wearing the white jacket is David's boss, John Heraty. Between them is Rosa Peña, Martin's housekeeper who also helped care for him.

On the way to Riverside we drove by this house on Elizabeth Lake Road that has a stone and wood facade and metal roof. We have contemplated a similar design for the New Mexico house.
